Police recover N40million goods

The Oyo Police Command on Monday said it has arrested 29 criminal suspects terrorising the residents of the city of Ibadan and other parts of the state.

Among the suspected criminal elements, were 10 suspected armed robbers, who allegedly diverted goods valued about Forty Million naira (N40m), to an unknown destination.

The commissioner of Police in the state, Shina Olukolu disclosed this at the command headquarter, Eleyele Ibadan, while parading some suspects arrested by the command.

According to him; “Based on credible information that some notorious hoodlums who specialized in hijacking and diverting trailer loaded with goods on the highways had highjacked a Mack trailer loaded with new SUMEC portable generators at Akinyele Area, along Ibadan/Oyo Expressway, and diverted the goods valued about Forty million (N40m), to an unknown destination.

“The SARS operatives swung into action, carried out discreet investigation, and in the process, the following members of the criminal gang who identified themselves as Adekunle Awoyode, (criminal reciever), Sarafadeen Abiodun (truck driver), Ismail Oyelowo (criminal recieved), Abiodun Azeez, Sulaimon Olamilekan, Olasode Hammed (motor boy), Jelili Olowoaje (criminal reciever), Hamish Tafa (criminal reciever), Quadri Afeez (criminal reciever), and Wasilat Taiwo (criminal reciever), were arrested.

“Exhibits recovered include, 410 pieces of new brand SUMEC portable generators, 560 4litres gallons of Conoil Engine oil, a Mark truck with registration no EKY 743 XF and one Toyota Camry Car with Reg no SMK 591 EQ.”

Meanwhile one of the suspects, Wasilat Taiwo, who was the suspected receiver of the goods while speaking with journalists said that she was promised to be given one million if the business works out, adding that initially, she wasn’t aware of the nature of the goods.

“They told me that the goods was oil, and I will be giving one million naira if the deal works out, am a provision seller, am not selling generator.”

The driver of the truck, Sarafadeen Abiodun, said the generators and oil was loaded from Lagos and meant to be delivered in Portharcourt and Rivers State before he diverted the goods to Oyo, noting that his own share will be one million if the deal succeeds.

In another development, the Oyo State Police Command said it has also arrested a fake pastor, Olusegun Oyetunji, who specialized in luring unsuspecting female victims to his hideout at Awe town via Oyo where the suspect would dispossess his victims of their valuable items, forcefully rape them serially and also carry out some spiritual cleansing for suspected ritual purpose.

According to the Commissioner , ‘sequel to information, a team of SARS operatives swung into action and in the process, the notorious robber/rapist and suspected ritualist who identified himself as Olusegun Oyetunji was arrested.

“One Infinix cell phone with which he took obscene pictures of his victims was recovered from him, upon interrogation, he confessed to the crime and claimed to be the Pastor of one Gospel Ministry Commission based in Bashi Quarters, Awe, and his confession led to the arrest of one of his accomplices, Gbenga Babatunde who is a quack medical practitioner who used to performed abortion for one of his victims.”

Olukolu however said that “the continuation of our resolve to constantly combat and rid Oyo State of crime and criminality, the command have sustained its aggressive approach and entrenched the community policing strategy couple with the determination and commitment of the officers and men of the command to reduce crime to the barest minimum in the state in spite of odds.”
